Welcome to GSEC

GSEC is the University of Guelph’s leading student-led environmental organization campaigning for more progressive environmental policies from the University and a more environmentally friendly campus. GSEC organizes a wide range of campaigns and activities throughout the year.

Here are GSEC’s Current activities

TAP-IN

As members of various groups on campus, such as GSEC (Guelph Students for Environmental Change), OXFAM, NDP Youth and others, we hope to reduce the amount of bottled water consumed at the University of Guelph. Ultimately, we would like the University Administration to encourage alternatives to the use of bottled water. read more about Tap-In’s work

Renewable Energy Group

REG works to promote energy efficiency on campus with a long-term goal of getting the campus powered by renewable energy. At the moment, REG’s main campaign is for a $10.4 million campus-wide energy retrofit – a huge project, but one that would pay for itself from energy savings alone.

Garbage Awareness Group

Following the partial success of GSEC’s campaign to get Styrofoam off campus 2003, the Garbage Awareness Group is now working on trying to improve recycling on campus and also increase awareness of garbage and landfill issues amongst students. As well the group is lobbying the Booster Juice corporation and Hospitality services to change the styrofoam packaging on booster juice cups. We would also like to see a dishwasher in the UC with the option of using reusable plates and cups. Why have a cafeteria if the UC is only supposed to be a take-out area?
